On Tuesday, the Finance Students' Association (FSA), in collaboration with the Economics Student Society of Australia (ESSA), hosted its highly anticipated annual Corporate Cocktails. Designed to foster authentic connections, the evening brought together ambitious students and leading industry professionals for a night of meaningful conversations, career insights, and networking.

Held at the Savoy Hotel on Little Collins, the event kicked off with a keynote address by Lou Capparelli from UniSuper. He gave a brief overview of his career journey and offered some valuable guidance about navigating the ever-changing financial industry. He also shared some practical tips for students to embrace all opportunities early in their careers - stressing in particular that one’s true career passions may be discovered after university, (perhaps in industries that don’t yet exist today!)

This was followed by the networking portion of the evening, where more than a 100 eager students gathered to engage with representatives from top-tier firms including Macquarie Bank, Vanguard, BCG, UniSuper. These companies spanned sectors from investment banking and consulting to asset management and economic policy. With drinks in hand and conversations flowing, students gained pertinent insights into diverse career paths, techniques for devising effective applications, and the importance of developing both technical and soft skills.

Overall, Corporate Cocktails was an enriching experience and the perfect opportunity to network with industry professionals in a welcoming and friendly environment. There was something for everyone, helping all participants to inform their decisions about a future career in finance.
